About Caroline…
Caroline Burkhart is a Brooklyn based director, choreographer, performer and teaching artist. Originally from Woodbridge, Connecticut, Caroline received a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College with concentrations in theatre, dance & philosophy. A performer of international acclaim, Caroline has appeared at Théâtres de la Ville du Luxembourg, and across New York City at prominent venues such as Target Margin Theater, Theater for the New City and MoMA PS1. A known player in the New York indie theatre scene, Caroline has devised and performed for esteemed experimental groups such as SMPL MCHN, the after-image and LOCAL GRANDMA. Her direction of Death of a Salesman: A New Play by Austen Halpern-Graser was awarded the Audience Choice, Best Two-Hander, and Sold Out Show awards at the 2023 NYC Fringe Festival and was later produced by FRIGID New York at the Kraine Theater.
As a theatre maker, Caroline ties together her love of storytelling through dance and clowning. Often highly physical and ensemble-driven, her work considers the wisdom of children against the unseen backdrops of grown-up ignorance. Her original work has been seen at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, The Brick Theater, and Movement Research. Her most recent play, Nuclear Family has been presented across New York.
Caroline currently teaches theatre and tap dance with WR Arts and is a storytelling instructor with The Moth.
