About Caroline…

Caroline Burkhart is a Brooklyn based theatre maker, performer and teaching artist. Originally from Woodbridge, Connecticut, Caroline received a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College with concentrations in theatre, dance & philosophy. Caroline has performed internationally at the Luxembourg National Theatre, Théâtres de la Ville du Luxembourg, and across New York City at Target Margin Theater, Theater for the New City, The Brick, Brooklyn Art Haus, and MoMA PS1. A lover of experimental theatre, Caroline has devised new works with experimental theatre groups SMPL MCHN, the after-image and LOCAL GRANDMA. Her direction of Death of a Salesman: A New Play by Austen Halpern-Graser was awarded the Audience Choice, Best Two-Hander, and Sold Out Show awards at the 2023 NYC Fringe Festival.

As a theatre maker, Caroline ties together her love of storytelling through dance and clowning. Often highly physical and ensemble-driven, her work considers the wisdom of children against the backdrop of grown-up absurdity. Her play, Nuclear Family has been presented across New York at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, The Brick, and Sarah Lawrence College.

Also a passionate teaching artist, Caroline leads storytelling workshops for The Moth as well as dance and acting classes at a Brooklyn based studio.
